The Swedish NMR Center at the University of Gothenburg is looking for highly motivated candidates to take up a postdoctoral position developing new methods in MAS DNP NMR.
The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 56 000 students and 6 600 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
The Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology conducts high-quality research and education in chemical sciences and molecular life sciences. Our research and education focuses on a deep understanding of chemical and biological processes in cells and in the environment. The department is an international environment with interdisciplinary collaborations in both research and education, and contributes strongly to the University of Gothenburg’s top ranking in life science. The department collaborates with various societal actors such as schools, business and authorities. The Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology has around 200 employees. We are located in central premises both on Campus Johanneberg and on Campus Medicinareberget in Gothenburg.
The Swedish NMR Centre is a national research infrastructure at the University of Gothenburg, and internationally a well recognized NMR laboratory. The Swedish NMR Centre provides access to advanced NMR equipment to users from academia and industry. The Swedish NMR Centre also provides advanced support and develops methods within the focus areas structural biology, chemical biology, NMR-based metabolomics, materials science and small molecule NMR, including environmental and pharmaceutical applications. Building on the collaboration with AstraZeneca since 2020 within solid state DNP-NMR applications in life science, we now strengthen this capability for advanced pharmaceutical formulations and inside-cell methodologies. The position is part of a new European infra-structure program, PANACEA, a pan-european solid-state NMR infrastructure for chemistry-enabling access.
Duties:
We are looking for highly motivated candidates to take up a postdoctoral position developing new methods in DNP-NMR. In particular you will be working on DNP-NMR methods for determining the structure of complex pharmaceutical formulations such as multi-phase nanoscale materials as well as developing new protocols for evaluation of drug uptake in cells and the monitoring of cellular processes inside cells. Administrative tasks and maintenance of the instrumentation may also be required.
Qualifications:
We are seeking candidates with strong scientific background and independence and who enjoy teamwork. The most important qualification is your desire to devotedly work with DNP-NMR spectroscopy to address challenging problems in life sceince and pharmaceutical applications. You have a doctoral degree where NMR spectroscopy has been the central theme and your master’s degree is in chemistry, physics or equivalent. You appreciate to work experimentally and also with theoretical tools from the perspective of physical chemistry. Skills in developing experimental multi-dimensional NMR as well as inside-cell NMR experience are a merit.
Employment:
Fixed term, fulltime during 2 years at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology.
