PhD Student in Hyperpolarized MRI
Lakehead University (Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada) is currently seeking a PhD student who has a keen interest in conducting advanced MR imaging research. Dr. Mitchell Albert’s laboratory focuses on developing novel hyperpolarized 129Xe MRI imaging techniques for the brain and advanced imaging using hyperpolarized 129Xe and 19F inert fluorinated gas for the lungs. As a requirement, potential PhD student candidates will need to have obtained a Master’s degree in physics or chemistry. The candidate will work in a diverse environment with a multidisciplinary team to achieve the study aims. The PhD student candidate will assist in research as well as other laboratory responsibilities. This may include but is not limited to:
- Planning, designing, and conducting preclinical and clinical experiments, and analyzing research.
- Participating in conferences and other research dissemination events.
- Publishing of research, journal articles, conference abstracts etc.
- Collaborating with laboratory staff and fellow researchers.
- Supervise undergraduate/graduate experiments.
- Assist in grant writing.
The PhD candidate should have excellent time management capabilities and communication skills, as well as a solid understanding of PCs and MS Office. The candidate should also be familiar with the general concepts of programming. Knowledge of MatLab, LabView, and C++ would be an asset. The potential candidate should be familiar with either nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) phenomenon. Knowledge of electrodynamics and radiophysics would be an asset.
